A Forest in Trust to the Children

The Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society has been formed to purchase Island Timberland forest land holdings immediately adjacent to Carrington Bay Park on Cortes Island. These forest lands will be held in trust for all the children of Cortes Island, in perpetuity. They will offer educational, recreational, cultural and spiritual value for all our children. They will provide the opportunity for our youth to embrace and practise stewardship of forest lands and watersheds.

Recent Updates

2022 was an amazing year for us. After nine years of negotiations with Mosaic Forest Management (formerly Island Timberlands and Timber West) to purchase five parcels of contiguous forestland, the process has reached a key milestone, focusing on the two parcels immediately adjacent to Carrington Bay. With our Society’s concurrence, Mosaic has placed the remaining three properties into a carbon offset program that will provide protection for the next 25 years, allowing our Society to continue to pursue purchase of these parcels.

Also this year, our youth alumni have stepped up in a big way. With great enthusiasm and gratitude, we hereby announce the release of a film produced by a group of the children who helped inspire the birth of the Cortes Children’s Forest Trust.

We hope you will consider making a donation to help us continue our work to purchase of the Cortes Children’s Forest. With your support, we will be able to push through the final stage of negotiations and ensure the protection of this forest in perpetuity. If you feel ready to make a donation now, you can do so at any time.
